Rehabilitation and structural reinforcement of the viaduct Fiumara di Tito

Rehabilitation and structural reinforcement of the viaduct Fiumara di Tito

As part of the redevelopment works on the Salerno – Potenza – Bari route, Breng was involved at planning the local rehabilitation of the Fiumara di Tito viaduct structures located along the R.A. no. 5 motorway junction from km 31+238 to km 32+340, in the municipality of Picerno (PZ).
The work consists of two parallel decks, with one carriageway for each direction of traffic. Each route is approximately 1100 metres long, with a total of 23 spans. The static scheme is made up of simply supported pre-stressed concrete beams placed directly on the piers or on the cantilevers, with a maximum span of 82 metres and a maximum height of 113 metres.
The findings of the inspections and investigations carried out on the works, together with the results of the safety assessment, led to local remedial actions being defined according to a pre-established implementation order, whereby the most critical issues were resolved first, in order to limit the period of traffic interruption. These interventions concern all elements of the deck (lab thickening, curb replacement, rehabilitation of existing prestressing cables, strengthening of beams with an external prestressing system, etc.) and the substructures (surface restoration, section thickening with added reinforcement bars, etc.).
