The intervention of “Structural Adaptation and Safety Enhancement of the Basentano Route (including the Sicignano – Potenza highway junction) and improving of accessibility to the regional capital city” involved a total of 11 existing viaducts along the highway section, which were in an average advanced state of deterioration. These include a number of works of significant engineering merit, above all the Carpineto I viaduct built in the 1960s-70s to a design by Prof. Engineer Riccardo Morandi.
