Hangar 4 and 5 of the Fiumicino Airport

Hangar 4 and 5 of the Fiumicino Airport

Safety assessment and extraordinary maintenance work on the stays and elevated structures of hangars aviation 4 and 5.
Aircraft hangars 4 and 5 at Fiumicino ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ Airport were designed in the late 1970s by Prof. Ing. Riccardo Morandi to meet the technical requirements introduced by the entry into service of the Boeing 747. Their internal volume in fact constitutes an aircraft envelope, redefining the link between structural function and formal expression. The roof consists of a hammock-like structure supported by pillars through the characteristic fan-shaped stays.
